We want individuals dedicated to closing the achievement gap in Milwaukee Public Schools. Milwaukee Teaching Fellows will have high expectations for their students – and themselves. Seventy-one percent (71%) of Milwaukee Public School tenth grade students performed below proficient levels in math last year. We need people driven to change this in their classrooms. Only 68% of Milwaukee Public School students graduate. We need leaders ready to work to elevate students’ success.
We are looking for candidates who are interested in teaching in subject areas where high-quality instruction and commitment are needed the most. Teaching Fellows will teach math, science, special education, or elementary bilingual education. We want people with little or no teaching experience but who are ready to enter the classroom to make a difference. There is no one profile for an ideal Teaching Fellows candidate; Fellows can span a wide range of backgrounds, bringing a diverse set of talents and skills to the program. This program is specifically designed for college graduates who may not have a degree in education, and professionals from other fields seeking an alternate route into a career in the classroom. Strong candidates are those who are committed to having a positive effect on student achievement, who display excellence through their previous endeavors, and who are dedicated to doing whatever it takes to reach and influence students – especially those in under-served areas – on a daily basis. Review the Eligibility section of this website for more details on the requirements to apply.
